Fost-Adopt Social Worker MSW - Fresno, CA (full-time)

Job Summary

Koinonia Family Services is seeking a qualified individual to work as a full-time fost-adopt social worker in our Fresno office. Responsibilities include social work and case management of children in fost-adopt placement; providing support services to resource parents; writing S.A.F.E. adoption home studies for Koinonia certified resource families who are adopting foster children placed in their homes; writing home studies for county-referred families, and providing on-going case management and services for children in approved adoption placement, including post-adoption services.  

The position requires a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW). Prior experience as a foster family agency social worker preferred. Prior experience completing S.A.F.E. home studies preferred.   The work schedule is regular business hours, Monday-Friday, with some occasional early evening and weekend work.  The position requires driving up to 1 hour (and sometimes more) to complete home studies.

Important:  Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background clearance through Department of Justice and FBI as well as a pre-employment physical and TB test.  Also, must have a driver's license in good standing, reliable transportation and be able to meet auto insurance eligibility requirements.

Applicants must live in close enough proximity to Fresno to adequately respond to children and families on an emergency basis (approx. 30 minutes max). General Responsibilities
  • Provides social work and case management services to children who are in fost-adopt placement (clients) and their resource (foster/adoption) families.
  • Prepares adoption fost-adopt home studies for resource families according to the Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (S.A.F.E.) home study model.
  • Attends pre-placement meetings with county workers and resource parents and facilitates the placement of children into the fost-adopt program.
  • Prepares a comprehensive "needs and services plan" for each assigned client.
  • Provides weekly home visits. Provides crisis support to clients and resource families as needed.
  • Meets with resource parents formally once per month to discuss a full range of aspects concerning their fost-adopt child's placement.
  • Reassesses each client's progress on a quarterly basis, and updates the needs and services plan throughout the duration of placement.
  • Assists resource families with obtaining needed services for clients through referrals to community resources.
  • Regularly writes a variety of reports, including intake reports, incident reports, quarterly reports, termination (discharge) reports, foster home evaluation reports and social home study reports.
  • Participates in the rotation of "on-call" responsibilities to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Maintains a case file for each client and resource family.
  • Assists with the on-going training of resource families.
  • Assists with the certification of new resource families, such as conducting home evaluations and social home studies.
  • Periodically assists with events to recruit foster parents.
  • Drives own personal vehicle on the job to accomplish job duties.

Educational Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
  • Bilingual candidates nearing graduation with a MSW degree are encouraged to apply.


Licenses & Certifications
  • LCSW Licensure desirable.
  • ACSW registration desirable.

Experience Requirements
  • Prior experience as a social worker in a foster family agency preferred.
  • Prior adoption agency experience preferred.
  • At least 6 months experience working with children and families in a public or private social services setting REQUIRED.
  • 2+ years of experience working with children and families in a public or private social services setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Must have very strong writing skills and ability to write lengthy home study reports and other required documents/reports. A writing test will be administered after the interview.
  • Knowledge of social work practices and counseling techniques.

Fresno is a city of approximately 510,300 (2010 census) and is located in Fresno County. Located in the center of the San Joaquin Valley, Fresno is approximately 200 miles north of Los Angeles and 97 miles southeast of Modesto. Nearby communities include Clovis, Calwa, Easton, Bonadelle Ranchos-Madera Ranchos, Fowler, Bowles, Biola, and Raisin City. The local climate is semi-arid with mild, moderately wet winters and hot and dry summers. The average minimum temperature is 38°F and the average maximum temperature is 98°F.
