Home for Teens Youth Counselor - Awake Night Staff - Loomis, CA (full-time)

Job Summary

Koinonia is seeking a qualified female to work in our all girls residential group home. The youth counselor position is an important component of Koinonia's adolescent residential Treatment program, which serves young people (residents) 12 to 18 years of age who have behavioral, emotional, and/or substance use issues that require residential treatment. The youth counselor position provides direct supervision for up to six residents as they complete their daily program activities and acts as the awake staff needed to maintain program structure while residents are asleep.

We are looking to fill the following shift:

  • Overnight: Friday - Monday, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The pay for the position is $13.50 to $16.00 per hour, depending upon experience and education. Benefits vary depending upon the hours worked and may include employee-only medical/dental/vision, holiday pay premium, paid time off (PTO), and participation in Koinonia's 401k plan. General Responsibilities
  • Provides direct supervision of youth during evening program activities, overnight and during early morning activities.
  • Conduct house "roams" every 15 minutes during shift to ensure welfare of residents during overnight hours.
  • Remains awake during entire overnight shift. This is an awake night staff position, which means there is no opportunity for the employee to sleep during their scheduled shift. Awake status is verified by continual time punches as duties are performed.
  • Helps youth successfully complete program tasks and activities.
  • Models, reinforces, and sets limits to behavior by using specified behavior management techniques.
  • When necessary and appropriate, intervenes and redirects residents who display inappropriate behaviors.
  • Observes and documents residents activities and behaviors to assess their needs and progress.
  • Participates in staff reviews of residents and helps implement treatment plans and program goals. Works cooperatively with the social worker and other clinical staff.
  • Participates in staff orientation, in-service training, periodic staff meetings, and on-going trainings.
  • May be required to interact with natural parents, community service providers, courts and police regarding youth.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of personal and professional ethics, and maintains appropriate professional and personal boundaries.

Educational Requirements

The position requires one of the following

  • Bachelor's degree in a behavior science or arts field
  • A valid Child Development Teaching Permit
  • 12 semester units of early childhood education, adolescent development or foster and kinship care education AND 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • A valid alcohol counselor, drug counselor, or alcohol and drug counselor certificate AND 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • A valid vocational training certificate, credential or documentation stating the individual is a trade journeyperson and instructs vocational skills to children AND has 100 hours of experience working with youth.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Driver's license required.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR and Water Safety Certification.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to quickly establish a rapport with clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to interact successfully with clients from differing social, cultural, racial and religious backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain alert and awake during entire overnight shift.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in daily duties.
  • High personal integrity and a strong commitment to excellence.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation.
  • Must be able to successfully pass state and federal criminal background checks and also successfully pass a health screening.
